8:00 Seamless Skies: A Practical Photoshop Workflow with Anthony Morganti

Learn a repeatable workflow for replacing skies in outdoor photographs. You’ll move from Photoshop’s automated Sky Replacement tools to more precise masking and blending techniques. The class will cover edge refinement, horizon transitions, color matching, lighting adjustments, and final corrections that help the new sky fit the original photograph.

9:00 Save the Shot: Working with High ISO Noise Reduction with Daniel Gregory

We'll start by looking at the same image taken at various ISOs to understand the difference between luminance noise and color noise, why they need to be treated separately for better results and how to approach testing noise reduction tools on the various ISO levels. By looking at how to test when noise is actually a problem, we can put ourselves in a better position to get the best images possible.  

From there, we'll work through the various approaches to fix the images. From a first pass using RAW processor sliders, to a heavier pass with plugins or AI-powered denoising tools, and a final finishing stage using selective masking in Photoshop to preserve detail exactly where it matters,  like eyes and texture, while smoothing everything else. Along the way, you'll see how output size and ISO levels change your approach, since noise that's invisible on screen can become obvious when we crop or enlarge an image.

10:00 Where Camera Raw Stops, Photoshop Starts with Glyn Dewis

Camera Raw is inside Photoshop, and it is far more capable than most people give it credit for. The trouble is that a lot of us either rush through it to get to the layers, or we stay in there far too long trying to force it to do things it was never built for. Knowing where that line sits is what separates a slow, frustrating edit from a clean one.

So Glyn will follow one picture from the very beginning to the very end. He starts out on location for an environmental portrait, where he'll show you how he reads the light that's there, how he works with somebody who isn't used to being photographed, and the camera decisions he's making with one eye already on the edit to come.

Then Glyn will open that same raw file and take it all the way through. Camera Raw first, working in a set order to build the foundation the whole picture depends on, using the tools most people walk straight past, before he shows you the precise point where Camera Raw has given all it can and the image needs to go across to Photoshop as a layered file. Retouching, dodging and burning, and building light and atmosphere until the picture matches what he saw in his head when he pressed the shutter.

You'll also see how the two talk to each other, so nothing is ever baked in too early, and you can go back and change your mind later without starting again.

One shoot, one raw file, one continuous flow, so you leave with a working process you can apply to your own pictures rather than a handful of tips you'll never quite know where to use.

11:00 Selection and Masking Essentials with Deke McClelland

Speaking very generally, there are two ways to modify an image in Photoshop. You can edit the entire thing all at once, known as a global modification. Or you can adjust a specific region, known as a selective modification.

Selective modifications go to the core of the real power of Photoshop. You can adjust the colors in one area of an image while keeping another the same. You can move a photographic detail to an independent layer, or even into another background. You can photograph a scene one way, and then turn it into something altogether different after the fact. Everything in a photograph—every object, every person, every place—becomes another asset that you can mix and match as much as you like.

These days, a lot of apps let you select specific areas in an image. But none does so with anything like the control and automation afforded by Photoshop.

In this session, you will earn how to:

• Draw a basic selection outline and “jump” it to an independent layer.
• Paint or edit inside a selection, or inside the confines of a layer.
• Build complex selections one step at a time by adding, subtracting, or intersecting one selection with another.
• Convert a selection to a layer mask or alpha channel.

5:00 Composite vs. AI: Building the Perfect Wide-Angle Portrait with Piet Van den Eynde

Wide-angle environmental portraits with flash look incredible, but there's a catch. Use a wide lens and keep your flashes out of frame, and they end up so far from your subject that the light turns hard and weak instead of soft and flattering. My fix: put the flashes right in the frame, shoot a second "clean" backplate without them, and combine everything in Photoshop.

In this session, I'll build the shot from setup to final composite: the on-location lighting, the two exposures you need, and the full Photoshop workflow to blend them. Then we'll put that against the AI alternative — removing the flashes with Content-Aware Fill or Generative Fill instead. Both look great from a distance. Zoom in, though, and the AI version starts to fall apart, especially on higher-megapixel files. Compositing fundamentals still matter, even now!

3:00 Upscale Any Image with AI with Deke McClelland

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Photoshop over the years, it’s that it can’t invent detail. You can enhance detail so as to bring out the very best in an image. You can sharpen details by increasing edge contrast. You can even upsample an image to add new pixels by averaging existing ones.

But the one tried-and-true method for conveying authentic, meticulously rendered detail is to capture the image with a high-resolution camera.

Which is great if you can afford a 100-megapixel Hasselblad X2D II ($8000, lens not included), and you’re willing to reshoot everything all over again. But what about the rest of us poor slobs who are sitting on troves of treasured photographs that we shot 20 or more years ago?

That’s where Generative Upscale comes into play. This recent addition to Photoshop lets you invent—yes, invent—new detail using one of three varieties of AI.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

• Use the conventional Image Size command to alter the number of pixels inside an image. (This is not new, but it’s essential information.)
• Scale an image up to 16 times its initial resolution. The finished result may measure as high as 56 megapixels.
• Decide when to use one of three available and distinct technologies: Firefly Upscaler, Topaz Gigapixel, or Topaz Bloom.
• Establish a starter image with the maximum number of pixels you’ll need to get started, as calculated for a variety of common aspect ratios.
• Enhance low-resolution archival images to the glory that you hoped you could always achieve. Your library restored!

The potential challenge involved with targeted adjustments is selecting the area you want to apply those adjustments too. Your image looks perfect on screen. You have invested time and effort into capturing the shot just right, and your edits are flawless. Now, as you prepare to print the image, a question arises: will it hold up when printed? After all, a print is only as good as the file behind it, and a file that works for an 8x10 print isn't necessarily suitable for a 24x30.

Get ready for a fun and fast-paced session where we dive into the project of producing a print at multiples sizes: a beautiful 8x10 that you might print on your own printer and preparing a stunning 24x30 that will come to life from a professional lab.

We start by exploring the basic workflow, focusing on printing requirements. This includes working with primary and print files, dealing with images of various sizes, key resolution calculations, sharpening techniques, effective file management, and printer settings. Our first print will have us focus on the workflow and process to produce the smaller 8x10 that might be printed on your personal printer.  

After we've worked with the smaller size, we shift our focus to the larger print. Here, we'll talk about the needs of the larger prints (color, sharpening, etc.) and learn how to incorporate a valuable quality control tool (It also saves time and money too). The test strip. These have long been a staple for photographers in darkrooms, and we'll adapt them for digital printing to ensure you have a reliable approach for creating that impressive full-sized print.

To wrap up our session, we focus on practical tips on outsourcing those larger prints to a professional lab. You'll learn about lab requirements, choosing the right papers, creating reference prints, utilizing the lab's ICC profiles, and important questions to ask before you have the print made. By the end of our time together, you'll feel confident and ready to bring that gorgeous print to life and showcase it proudly on your wall!
